This is my trip log. I sometimes do first person, Darin sometimes does third. I sometimes use present tense, I used past tense as well. It's a log, so I (mostly) don't care. I used as many pictures as had access to. I used copyrighted material. I lie. I swear. You've been warned. This is best viewed above 800 pixels width. If something is wrong, it's Rob's fault. However, if you let me know, I'll fix it.
If you enjoy it, let me know.
I love to sail. I love vacations. I have a new trimaran (new to me) and a week of vacation. Guess where this is going :-)
Let's start with the boat. I've been dreaming of f-boats for a few years. They just seem like the perfect boat for my wife and I. She doesn't like the leaning of our previous monohull during weather... it scared her. I didn't like the slow pace. Neither of us liked the amount of deck space. With more than four people, people had to stay down below. But we needed something trailerable, yet large enough to stand the coastal waters. Yes, f-boats are the perfect solution. Unfortunately, they are out of my price range... by a considerable margin.
That is, until we found Batamaran:
We love her. Now, I still long for a bigger one, but she keeps me content for the time being :-) She's pretty fast, very light, doesn't heal, trailerable (although, not as easily as Sweet Harmony), and has tons of space on top. Her cabin is quite small, but it still has a porta-potty and room for Janna and I to sleep. So, big enough. For now. :-)
OK.. back to the vacation. My 29th birthday is approaching on July 13th, and I'd like to do something fun. A good friend, Jason, has his birthday on the 15th, so we usually combine parties. We had done a lake trip and a tubing trip previously. He has invited me to the bayhouse in Port Alto this year. Hmmm.. a new boat, a week of vacation, and destination on the bay. Sounds like fun to me!
Unfortunately, Jason
couldn't make the sailing portion due to work. Damned old work.
Janna won't let me go alone. Out of desperation, I invite Rob. :-) He's a great friend from the Austin Sailing Society. He's also a longhorn. I forgive him.
We met at the inaugural Scavenger Hunt, one of the ASS's best events. He has a Catalina 27, and I was crew. It was a wild day – unbearable heat, no wind, then rain, thunderstorms, huge wind, then perfect conditions. We had a ball. We've been close since. I am very happy he's able to go with me. Regardless of the silly shirts that he wears.
We inform our companies that we'll be missing the week of the 13th and begin planning.
I lie awake most nights in excitement until the day we leave.
